the realisation of A shared passion for beautiful holiday homes, smart architecture, and the natural beauty and uniqueness of the NSW South Coast.

It began in the early 90s when the Yannopoulos family purchased a holiday house in Vincentia, Jervis Bay, on the NSW south coast. The family fell in love with Jervis Bay and were just as taken with the beautiful, historic village of Berry, their stopping point en route to Vincentia. A young Peter Yannopoulos filed it away in his memory bank that one day they’d purchase in Berry too.

Some 20 years later, the family, headed by Peter, a property enthusiast, acquired a beautiful farm on Coolangatta Road, Berry. It was being built by Jamie Strong, a clever carpenter and visionary in the construction world. Jamie had a deep appreciation of the land and environment and its connection to the human experience, views Peter also shared.

Peter is also inspired by renowned Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus who created a system for naming and classifying plants and animals and was also known for his work studying the relationships between living organisms, humans, and their physical environment. The farm in Berry exemplified just that - a physical environment that honoured what already existed in nature and how deeply it nurtured the human soul.

It was only right that the Coolangatta Rd property should be named Linnaeus Farm, and it was a given that Peter would continue to develop it building on the abundance of plantings and organic produce, with its backdrop the best mother nature has to offer. And just like Linnaeus, who procured multiple properties to enjoy with his family while continuing to study nature from around the world, Peter and the family acquired properties in Berry. Like Linnaeus, he wanted to provide places they could go to, to reconnect with themselves, each other and nature. At the same time he wanted to create a collection of luxury holiday properties where guests had ‘the extraordinary’ as an expectation. But its not just about a holiday home. The collection forms a deconstructed hotel , which gives people a unique experience of hotel luxury and amenity, but in the comfort of a home.

Peter had the idea, a passion for quality development, the support and input from his family, his wife Nadia who had the creative vision, a great architect in Vic Lake and a terrific team of consultants. There was just something missing, but an introduction from Vic to Simone Mathews, owner and design guru behind Soul Home and The Pause (high-end holiday accommodation in Gerringong) as well as creator of a successful on-line holiday-property-owner education course, filled that gap.

“We all share the same vision for the Linnaeus Collection and the extraordinary holiday experience we want it to provide to travellers from here and all over the globe. It’s a passion project for us and we’re driven not only by the need to deliver the finest quality in the provision of a luxury, home-away-from-home getaway, but by the legacy the Collection will leave. We’ll measure our success by the joy our guests feel after a stay at any one of our properties and the unforgettable memories it creates for them. It’s about connecting guests with nature and a slower, calmer travel experience.”

“If I can translate through visual communication and design, just a fraction of that feeling you get when you drive through the gates at Linnaeus Farm for instance, then I’ve succeeded in telling the story of the Linnaeus Collection experience. Working with Peter and Simone is what inspires me - that collective passion and respect for providing an exceptional and wholesome holiday experience, from the initial glance at an Instagram post and all the way through to guest checkout and beyond. That is the real-life experience you’ll get at any one of the properties in the Collection, and it’s my goal to showcase it.”
